These drugs work by stopping the hormone estrogen from encouraging cancer cells to grow and spread. Arimidex is a type of hormone therapy called an aromatase inhibitor. It works by stopping estrogen from being made in your body by the aromatase enzyme. Anastrozole increases androgen production and normalizes serum testosterone levels in older men with mild hypogonadism.
